The overall structure of PLAMINPACK, comprises 7 distinct Work Packages (WPs). These WPs are strategically positioned along the value chain and are outlined below:
WP1, dedicated to the production of anti-oxidants and antimicrobials (OAM), solid residue powder (SR), chitosan and high-protein flour from Hermetiaillucens reared on selected plants, is aimed at producing the biobased materials necessary for the project activities with an approach of integral valorisation in cascade of the residues of the date, strawberry and tangerine plants and through the bioconversion based on the Hermetiaillucens insect.
WP2, dedicated at materials and processes for nets, films and trays, is aimed at developing the materials, processing technologies and prototypes of the new packaging developed by PLAMINPACK, considering both the production of textile nets, films, trays and functional coatings that can enhance their properties.
WP3, dedicated to microbiological, shelf-life and barrier properties studies, is aimed at testing the anti-microbial and gas barrier properties, as well as microbiological aspects related to the spoilage of the selected fruits in the developed packaging (shelf-life).
WP4, focused on physical treatments and ICT technologies integrated in the supply chain, is aimed at enhancing the shelf life of the fruit using both physical treatments such as plasma, also in combination with the chitosan coating of the fruit, and ICT technologies to enhance agro-food waste or to select/identify the biobased packaging suitable for the specific process of ripening of the fruit.
WP5, dedicated to End of life and environmental implications, is aimed at evaluating the stability of materials and packaging in the environment, bearing in mind release phenomena and aspects of toxicity/biological activity, at studying the end of life (home-composting and recyclability) and at evaluating the environmental impacts by studying the life cycle.
WP6, focused on Dissemination, Exploitation, Communication & Outreach activities, is aimed at the development of dissemination and training activities on the topic of biobased packaging in the context of the circular economy in the agro-food sector, the exploitation of results and communication and outreach activities, with a multi-actor approach.
WP7, dealing with project coordination, will address implementation management and reporting as well as financial reporting and data management.
