Our latest paper, “Hesperidin-enriched extracts for active food packaging from tangerine agro-industrial by-products using subcritical water extraction and resin purification,” has just been published!

Developed in the PLAMINPACK project, this work highlights a sustainable approach to valorizing tangerine by-products by extracting bioactive compounds for use in active food packaging—bringing us one step closer to more circular and eco-friendly solutions in the food industry.

This study explores how agro-industrial by-products—like stems and leaves—can be transformed into something useful. By extracting polyphenols, especially hesperidin (HE), researchers are finding new ways to apply these natural compounds in active food packaging.

Using subcritical water extraction (SWE) and optimizing purification through macroporous resin adsorption, the process becomes both efficient and sustainable—opening the door to greener packaging solutions. Here the link to our paper
