Cover Story : This study explores a sustainable strategy to valorise strawberry lignocellulosic agro-industrial byproducts by optimising the extraction of antioxidant and antimicrobial bioactive compounds for edible active coatings. Using subcritical water extraction and response surface methodology, phenolic-rich extracts were obtained and incorporated into chitosan-based coatings. Antioxidants recovered from plant waste can protect treated fruits by reducing oxidative degradation and microbial spoilage, thereby extending shelf life while promoting circular use of agricultural residue.
